This Owens Ferrous vase stands 6" high by 3" in body diameter, and 1.5" at the rim, a nice simple bud vase form, with a rolled flared rim. This vase is glazed in a thick and rich satin lustre glaze in coppery black, which is akin to glass. According to Ed Council, an established Owens historian, the Ferrous glaze is similar to the Feroza glaze but in non-Art Nouveau shapes and made with a chemically different glaze dating to post 1902. Council notes that the Ferrous glaze is misidentified in Stofft's book as 'Gunmetal'. He saw this pot in Zanesville during Pottery Lovers Week and verified it as Ferrous (TY Ed!).This vase bears what appears to be the outline of a mark on the base, but it is not legible to my eye. This interesting vessel is in original factory condition, with a hint of a slight lean from excess glaze pooling under the base as can be well seen in the photos. There are some no harm factory pinholes, which are of no consequence. This is an elusive Owens glaze treatment, and a very handsome example of the Owens Ferrous line.
