This Rookwood Production Art Deco covered jar stands 2.5" high by 4.5" square. It has a simple Asian-inspired form, yet so elegant. This vessel was designed by Kataro Shiriyamadani, one of Rookwood's most accomplished artists, who spent his career at the Rookwood Pottery. It is glazed in an organic celadon green gloss glaze that thins at the high points, accenting the form and design beautifully. It has a wonderfully masculine feel to it. This jar is well marked and it is dated 1945, shape number 2839. This handsome vessel is in near factory original condition, with a very small glaze pull into the clay on the interior lid dry foot. This may be factory in origin, but it is a simple pull in the dry foot of the lid, which does not affect the presentation of this lovely Asian-inspired covered jar.
