This Weller early Matt Glaze Ware urn/bowl stands 5" high by 5.5" in diameter for the body, with a 3" opening at the rim. It has a classic urn form. This vessel is beautifully decorated with blackberries and leaves, intricately hand painted using slip. The artwork is exquisitely detailed, with thick slip with well-defined berries and leaves, which look as if you could pick them off the bowl…fine, fine artwork, but no obvious initials for an artist. It is glazed in a soft flat matt gray underglaze, with complementary gray-blue hues in the artwork. This urn/bowl is marked with the tiny Weller Ware block stamp, which fades into the clay showing the last letters of Ware, but it is guaranteed to be vintage Weller from c1905. It is in original condition, with some factory crazing. This vessel, which feels great in hand, would complement any collection, it is very handsome.
