This Weller early Matt Ware rose bowl stands a demure 3" high by 5.5" in diameter for the body. It has a classic rose bowl form. This vessel is beautifully decorated with blue berries and green leaves, intricately hand painted using slip by Hester Pillsbury, initialed by Pillsbury by the artwork. The artwork is exquisitely detailed, with thick slip with well-defined berries and leaves, which look as if you could pick them off the bowl…fine, fine artwork. It is glazed in a soft flat matt yellow underglaze, with complementary colors in the artwork. This rose bowl is marked with the tiny Weller block stamp, which fades into the clay, but it guaranteed to be vintage Weller from c1905. It is in good restored condition, for heavy rusty crazing on the lower side and base, and a fine line at the rim. There are a couple of clay factory tags, which present as brown tags, simply factory nuances in the clay, as can be seen in the photos. This vessel, which feels great in hand, would grace any collection, it is simply stunning.
